The Dooly County School System has been selected as a recipient of a $25,000 grant from Georgia Reads/Georgia Council on Literacy, reinforcing the district’s ongoing efforts to strengthen literacy development among students and the broader community. Dooly County was one of 61 organizations that applied for this competitive funding opportunity.
As an L4GA (Literacy for Learning, Living, and Leading in Georgia) school district, Dooly County Schools is committed to fostering literacy excellence through strategic partnerships and community collaboration. The district works closely with Dooly County Family Connections, Albany Area Primary Health, Dooly County Recreational Department, the Rollins Center, GLISI Lit, and Educational Epiphany to implement impactful literacy initiatives that benefit both students and families.
“This grant will allow us to further our mission of building strong literacy foundations for all learners,” stated Dr. Sherrod Willaford, Superintendent of Schools. “Through our partnerships and dedicated educators, we are creating opportunities that not only support student achievement but also strengthen literacy across our community.”
The funding will be used to support literacy programs, enhance instructional resources, develop print-rich environments, and provide professional learning opportunities that align with the district’s comprehensive literacy plan.
