The Dooly County School System was presented the Golden Radish Award for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.
The Golden Radish Award publicly recognizes Georgia school districts for best practices in farm to school programs. These best practices included: local food procurement, gardening and harvesting activities, and exposing students to new foods through taste tests in the classrooms. GaDOE SND with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, University of Georgia Extension, and the Georgia Department of Public Health worked together to revise award criteria.
Donna Coats, Director of School Nutrition for Dooly County Schools, was present at the Georgia Department of Education Food Nutrition Director’s Conference to accept the awards on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Mrs. Coats stated, "Receiving the Golden Radish Awards has given our team a great sense of accomplishment and reassures us that our Farm to School work is making a positive and lasting impact on the students of Dooly County."
