Greetings Bobcat Nation! This was the Black History Month WoW Wednesday spotlight with a focus on trailblazers in Dooly County...people who broke down barriers and paved the way for greater opportunities for all! Like Barack Obama, Shirley Chisolm, Ralph Bunche, Mae Jemison, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Russell and so many more, these Dooly Countians are also history makers in their own right. They took risks and opened doors. We stand on their shoulders, and we salute them today and always. Though the National Celebration of Black History comes to a close, let's continue to learn about, teach and share the accomplishments of our fellow Americans.

Our Bobcats were sooo close today, but fell shy 65-67 against Wheeler. This puts our Bobcats at #4 in the Region. We still believe Bobcats! Next up - Mitchell County, Camilla, GA on Tuesday, February 20, 2024! See you there!

Greetings Bobcat Nation!! Today's Wow Wednesday Black History Month Feature was an extreme "Wow" moment for me as I was flipping through Mrs. Sheila Almond's well-kept, school scrapbooks. Among many clippings of great school events was article after article of a two time Olympic Gold medalist from Vienna, GA!! A graduate of Dooly County Schools!!!! Roger Kingdom! Recently, it was a privilege speaking to Ms. Christine Kingdom and learning more about Roger Kingdom and all of her children including her daughter, Lorrye Borden, who taught 30 years in the Dooly County School System! Here's a link for more information about Roger Kingdom's story: https://www.teamusa.com/news/2022/june/08/hall-of-fame-inductee-roger-kingdom-cleared-every-hurdle-on-the-way-to-olympic-stardom.

Did you know that a prominent/notable hair care products entrepreneur and businessman is from Byromville, Ga originally? In Honor of Black History Month, Dooly County School System will feature each Wednesday a little known fact about the extraordinary accomplishments of African Americans. This is information that often leaves one saying or thinking, "oh, wow", and the phrase is then mostly followed by "I didn't know that." That was exactly what many Dooly County School System leaders said Monday during a meeting when our Superintendent, Dr. Sherrod Willaford, told us about Mr. Therman McKenzie, Sr. Enjoy reading about him in today's Black History Month Wow Wednesday.

Dooly County School System gladly joins the nation and world in celebrating the extraordinary courage and accomplishments of African Americans during Black History Month. Our schools celebrate in many ways. If you visit any of our schools, you will see the walls adorned with posters of notable and trailblazing men and women who have made a tremendous impact on our country and the world. In addition, we will feature a Black History Month campaign sharing little known facts and thoughts about local and national greats and the importance of Black History Month. Look for these on Wow Wednesdays and Fridays. To culminate the month, feel free to join the schools for amazing Black History Programs - Dooly County K-8, Tuesday, 2/27/24 at 9 a.m. in the MS Gym and Dooly County High School, 2/29/24 at 2 p.m in the HS Gym.
